Local gay women and men (+ visitors to the shire, ex-residents, hope-to-be residents, workers in the shire) are encouraged to anonymously complete a newly-launched online social survey before 18 September 2009.
Eurobodalla Shire Council's Social Planner, Steve Picton says this is the first time Council has undertaken to gain a greater understanding of the issues affecting local gay people. (so let's respond!!!)
"The survey is just one of the many methods Council is using to consult with the community during the development stage of the Eurobodalla Shire's Social Plan," he said. "It provides individuals with an opportunity to voice their concerns and ideas about living, visiting or working in the Shire as a lesbian, gay man, bisexual or transgender person."
In order to address themes such as personal safety and equitable access, Mr Picton says, Council is seeking to identify community needs and aspirations then consider them to develop strategies through the Social Plan that positively influence community wellbeing.
"In response to the requirements of the Local Government Act, we have recently surveyed local women, seniors and children on these issues and have consulted with people living with a disability, youth and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds."
"We have been carrying out these community consultations over the last three years in the lead up to developing a draft of the Social Plan which will be available later this year," Mr Picton said.
The online Survey of Gays and Lesbians is confidential and takes only a few minutes to complete. To find the survey, look for the 'Rainbow Flag' link in the Planning and Development area on Council's home page www.esc.nsw.gov.au/.

The Phoenix theatre is presenting a different sort of cabaret night with its new series Chai Cabaret.
The idea of Chai cabaret is to present something different to the wild and naughty Spiegelhaus shows by offering the audience something a bit exotic a little spicy and full of life. Chai Cabaret is PG so anyone can come. There is no nudity no swearing and god old fashioned high class fun.
For the inaugural Chai Cabaret we have three performers familiar to Spiegelhaus audiences Jessica Garraway, Honora Jenkins and Andy Leonard.
The night will include songs from such diverse sources and Broadway, movie musicals and jazz classics with a little sesame street thrown in because we cant help ourselves. We have waived the $15 ticket price due to licensing regulations so the night is free entry but as we are raising funds for the renovation of the theatre we wont say no to a donation. This is a special event for another reason our Regular co host for Spiegelhaus Jessica Garraway (Inga) is about to go to sing in the Venetian Casino in china for a six month contract so it's a last chance to see her until well into next year.
