FWD: Eurobodalla LGBT survey

Forwarded.....

Fwd: HAVE YOUR SAY ON LGBT ISSUES IN EUROBODALLA - will only take 5 minutes of your time

A first for the Eurobodalla gay community !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please pass on to any other LGBT people that live in Eurobodalla  or who have ever visited, worked, lived before etc…. & ask them to fill in the survey. Council doesn't realise how many of us are out there…. After a big win with Bega Valley Council back in the early 2000's, Eurobodalla has finally come onboard – to include us in the last social plan ever!!!!

SO LET'S MAKE SURE THEY HEAR US!!! PUH-LEASE!!!!   I assure you it is ANONYMOUS!!!

Local gay women and men (+ visitors to the shire, ex-residents, hope-to-be residents, workers in the shire) are encouraged to anonymously complete a newly-launched online social survey before 18 September 2009.

Eurobodalla Shire Council's Social Planner, Steve Picton says this is the first time Council has undertaken to gain a greater understanding of the issues affecting local gay people.  (so let's respond!!!)

"The survey is just one of the many methods Council is using to consult with the community during the development stage of the Eurobodalla Shire's Social Plan," he said. "It provides individuals with an opportunity to voice their concerns and ideas about living, visiting or working in the Shire as a lesbian, gay man, bisexual or transgender person."

In order to address themes such as personal safety and equitable access, Mr Picton says, Council is seeking to identify community needs and aspirations then consider them to develop strategies through the Social Plan that positively influence community wellbeing.

"In response to the requirements of the Local Government Act, we have recently surveyed local women, seniors and children on these issues and have consulted with people living with a disability, youth and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds."

"We have been carrying out these community consultations over the last three years in the lead up to developing a draft of the Social Plan which will be available later this year," Mr Picton said.

The online Survey of Gays and Lesbians is confidential and takes only a few minutes to complete. To find the survey, look for the 'Rainbow Flag' link in the Planning and Development area on Council's home page www.esc.nsw.gov.au/.

If you would like more information about the development of the Shire's Social Plan, please contact Steve Picton in Council's Development and Natural Resources Division on 4474 1066 OR Jen Somers at Council on 4474 1047

Why shouldn't council:

  • Fly the rainbow flag during Mardi Gras week?
  • Put Rainbow stickers on all the LGBT resources (that they buy as an outcome of this survey) in their libraries?
  • Train ALL Council staff in diversity & equity & anti-discrimination issues? Then have safe place stickers on council buildings?
  • Have positive discrimination posters in all Council buildings & also Stop DV posters in same sex relationships
  • Make public comments about not tolerating homophobia & violence?

The list goes on….

THANK YOU FOR YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THIS UNIQUE OPPORTUNITY TO INFORM EUROBODALLA COUNCIL ABOUT OUR EXPERIENCES AS LGBT
