Hi Lemons,

I have attached the next Bush Lemons calendar which runs from December to March next year. There are lots of exciting things on this calendar including another walk in the Royal National Park, an overnight walk on the historic Pipelane track in the Capertee Valley, a beginners walk (do the walk and then party on at the Lemon Zest dance that night), another camping weekend at Dunns Swamp before summer finishes, a bike ride down in Sydney, and of course lots of wonderful walks in our beautiful mountains.

Our last walk for the year is Sunday 12 December down to Fords Crossing in the Megalong Valley. If you don't wish to do the walk, then you can always drive down and join us for lunch and swimming, or just walk one way. The details of this walk will be sent out shortly.

Also, we have the exciting news that we have a date and venue for the 15 year anniverary celebration for Bush Lemons. Diarise it now!!! Friday, 1 April - Sunday, 3 April, at Kurrajong. We will have the run of this property and there will be lots of activities and fun and you won't want to miss it. More details will come out soon. We are keeping the cost to a minimum to encourage you all to join us.

Queer Cabaret: Spiegelhaus CabaRed 4 Dec 2010

Spiegelhaus CabaRed

Phoenix theatre and Spiegelhaus are producing a one off Cabaret as a fundraiser for world aids day and ACON Illawarra branch we have called CabaRed in honur of the red ribbon that symbolises the fight against HIV.

ACON Illawarra branch do great work in our community and have been a strong supporter of the phoenix theatre since day one, its time to give a little support back to them as well as commemorate friends and loved ones who have been affected by this Virus.

Hosted by the Outrageous Nero Von Fassbinder This is a spiegelhause so anything could happen, there will for the first time be Drag Queens on stage featuring our local greats Dee Dee Lamar, Cara van Park, Malicious Damage, Gracie films and Victoria Vague, as well as Sydney sensation Mystique Jewel. We also welcome the return of FANCY PIECE direct form their sell-out pussycat club shows at the oxford hotel. We also have belly dancers flaming bitches, scarlet fever, torch singers and every other kind of weird and wonderful acts that can be expected at a Spiegelhaus, and a few surprises how far will we dare go this time J its a strictly R 18+ show (we will be checking id) so be warned.

REAL FWD: Berkeley Women's Choir

The Berkeley Women's Health and Wellness Project is excited to announce the establishment of the Berkeley Women's Choir in 2011.

The Berkeley Women's Choir is a 12 month pilot community development initiative that serves to foster community connectedness between women living in Berkeley, improve the health and wellbeing of local women and empower participants through the mutual experience of choral music and community participation. The Berkeley Women's Choir also aims to provide local women with the opportunity to engage in choral activities that have been demonstrated to benefit the physical and emotional health of singing participants.

The project is seeking to engage the participation of a volunteer Deputy Choir Director. This role will assist the Choir Director, the esteemed Sarah Lambert in her musical leadership of the choir. Please contact Emma for more info.

REAL FWD: Grand Spiegelhaus is coming Saturday Nov 6th

Grand Spiegelhaus is coming. On Saturday Nov 6th we are holding a Grand Spiegelhaus this will be a special Night in honour of Viva la gong and the theatre being almost finished, we think it's time to show off all the hard work and let people see what is going to be one of the hottest venues in town. Yes we are opening the main theatre up at last. Show starts at 8pm with a second act at about 9.20 and a third act at 10.30. turn up after viva if you want and catch the 3rd show or stay all night and get your party on with us, we will have the usual tea and coffee as well as pumpkin soup and salsa at the bar but BYO everything else for a massive party, lots of old favorites and new acts its going to be huge. Reservations are essential to ensure a table by emailing bookings@phoenixtheatre.net.au as usual entry is free as we cannot charge the $15 ticket yet but not for long donations are always welcome and this time you can see what we've been fundraising for. Doors open at 7.30 and won't close till late

Hi Lemons,

Early next year Bush Lemons will be celebrating 15 years of walking! I think this calls for a bit of a celebration!!

I am hoping to organise a weekend celebration away at a venue that has both beds and allows camping, which isn't too far from the mountains, and may have accommodation for up to about 50. All past and present (and possibly even future) Lemons would be welcome, and the weekend would ideally include a main dinner and celebration, and maybe some walks, playing of sports, and be very social, friendly and inclusive of course.

If you can assist with any of the following, then I would be very pleased to hear from you:

* Join the group to organise the celebratory weekend. You would need to come along to a few meetings, and have the required time, energy and enthusiasm!

* Suggest a venue that you may have stayed at which has a variety of different accommodation, is private and has a common area/kitchen for our meals and celebration.

* May have expertise in setting up, or helping to set up, a Bush Lemons website.

* May be able to organise printing some Bush Lemons tshirts/caps or calendars for the occasion.

If you would like to get involved in this celebration which should be a lot of fun, then please send me an email so I can start to get things underway. It doesn't matter if you don't have any experience in doing any of the above, wishing to give back to Bush Lemons and have the enthusiasm required is the main criteria!

Bushwalking in the Morton National Park.

Grade: Easy

Distance: 7km

Duration: 2.5hrs

Location: Milton area. Walk goes through low heath and along rock slabs with views along gorges and to Pigeon House Mountain.

Real Illawarra Bushwalk – Saturday 18 September

Real Illawarra Bushwalk – Saturday 18 September

Join REAL Illawarra for some bushwalking in the Royal National Park. More specifically this will be a dawdle! If you like to take it slow and look at everything or photograph every flower you see, then this walk is the one for you. Hopefully the wildflowers will be in bloom, the birds will be about and we can enjoy a fine picnic lunch and some great company.

Grade: Easy

Distance: 12km

Duration: 5-6hrs total

Location: Start and finish at Bundeena

Meet: Location details will be given when you RSVP
Time: 10:30am

When you RSVP you will be given the exact meeting location. Please provide your name and a contact ph no. so you can be contacted if cancelled. If you need a lift or would like to car pool, let me know when you book in and I will try to organise.

Do you know a carer you would like recognised for their role supporting someone with a disability or illness?

The Local Carer Awards Program recognises the vital role of carers in the community, and to further the outstanding contribution of individual local carers the Government is introducing this annual Awards program aims to recognise carers who have achieved something outstanding and at the same time raise awareness of, and focus public attention on, the vital role played by carers.

There are over 750,000 carers in New South Wales who provide vital support to older people and people with a disability or an illness. People needing care include children or adults with a disability, and frail or elderly people. One carer will be selected from nominees in each State electorate to receive a Carer Award Certificate and a cash prize of up to $2,500!

The NSW Local Carer Awards Program aims to recognise the diverse range of carers including (but not limited to):

a) Aboriginal carers
b) carers from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds
c) people caring for a family member with a physical and/or an intellectual disability
d) young people with caring responsibilities
e) aging carers
f) carers of people with a mental illness
g) carers of people with a chronic illness
h) carers from rural and remote areas

The following categories of carers may also be considered when making nominations:

Primary Carer

This award would recognise a primary carer in the community who demonstrates - an outstanding contribution to improving the life of the person for whom they care.

Older Carer

This award would recognise a primary carer in the community aged over 60 years who has had a longstanding caring role (eg caring for a son or daughter with a disability) and who
demonstrates an outstanding contribution to improving the life of the person for whom they care.

Caring Family

This award would recognise a family in the community who demonstrates exceptional caring capacity as a family unit to provide care for a family member.

A Local Carer Support Group or School

This award would recognise a carer support group or school in the community that demonstrates excellence and commitment to raising the profile of carers; and the development of an innovative program tailored to meet the specific needs of carers.

A Caring Workplace

This award would recognise a workplace in the community that demonstrates strong commitment to the role of carers in the workplace through flexible work practices and policies; and commitment to raising the profile of carers.

A Caring Volunteer

This award would recognise an individual in the community who demonstrates in their role as a volunteer, their commitment to improving the quality of life and outcomes for carers and the people for
whom they provide care.

Want to see a visually sumptuous, sugar coated circus/theatre show packed to the brim with hula hoops, comedy, burlesque, dance, magic, shadow puppets and a two headed, hula hooping, Barbarella styled beauty!? Great, read on, because Heidi Hoops will be presenting LOST AND FOUND THE SUGAR CANDY SHOW at the Sydney Fringe from the 10th to the 16th Sept - There are only 5 shows so don't miss out on this epic tale about a hula hooper who looses her head!

Our crew this year is an all girl team from the Gong, Ann Burbrook, Amber Silk, Emma Lockheart Wison and Rachel Dallywater and Heidi Hillier.
