REAL: Gay Camping NSW, Fri 22- Tue 26 Jan, west of Nowra

Australia Day weekend hasn't been busier for Gay Camping NSW with two camps scheduled to cater for the growing number of keen campers willing to enjoy the great outdoors.

The guys putting this trip together have been drawn to Coolendel for it's reasonable proximity to the Pretty Beach camp for a possible day trip and also the challenging fire trails in the area for 4 wheel driving, an activity which has been gaining interest amongst members lately.

COST: $24.00 per person/per night camping fee. (subject to confirmation)

Coolendel is a privately owned & managed bush reserve on the South Coast, west of Nowra. Sadly no Pets are welcome, but neither are motor bikes or generators!

Bush camping here comes with some luxuries other sites don't normally offer - hot showers and flushing toilets! There's the large Shoalhaven river with canoe hire, loads of kangaroos, wombats, possums, goannas and even peacocks.

Onsite is a small shop but make sure you bring everything you need to make your stay a comfortable one.

At this stage the proprietors aren't taking bookings & it will be first in first served with payment on arrival.

ACCESS: Regular passenger vehicles can access the campground although the last 10 km are well maintained dirt road.

TRAVEL: Head south on the Princess Hwy to Nowra. Cross the Shoalhaven River at the Nowra Road Bridge. At the 5th set of traffic lights, turn right into Kalandar Street and continue to the roundabout. Take second turn from the roundabout into Albatross Road, then turn right into Yalwal Road (Yalwal, Burrier, Coolendel turnoff). Stay on this road, following Coolendel signs. The road will turn from bitumen to dirt, but don't give up. Slow down so you don't damage the car and enjoy the scenery. It's about 10km down the dirt road, passing some great views of the Shoalhaven River. See the map link below for campsite marker and travel directions from Sydney CBD.
